The Roostertales Bass Club had an outstanding tournament on Willow Springs on Saturday, July 14th. This is our annual one day summertime tournament on this lake. Water temperatures were 70- 72 degrees. Air temperatures were 65 to 80 degrees through the day. Large storm clouds circled all day, but conveniently missed us. Eight teams fished, with 6 of 8 teams weighing limits. Bags were comprised almost entirely of smallmouths, with most under one pound. The winning bag was 8.2#, anchored by a beautiful 4.3# smallie. The second largest bag was 5.8 #, anchored by a 2.6# smallie. Most fish were caught on dropshot or jerk baits. Fish were caught all over the lake, but larger fish seemed to be caught in 15- 20 foot water. When the wind picked up and sustained for more than 15 minutes, the bite also seemed to pick up through the day. The tournament was dedicated to the memory of Gloria Redding, a long-time Roostertales supporter and participant, who recently passed from cancer. She is the wife of Gary Redding, and mother of Jay Redding –long-time Roostertales club members.
Our next tournament is on Roosevelt Lake from 5 pm to 1 am- on Saturday, August 4th. Our Monday meeting before the tourney on 7/30 is at 7 pm in one of the second floor meeting rooms at Bass Pro Shops, Mesa. If you are interested in our Club, come on by, meet the guys, and register to courtesy fish our next tourney.
