Lake Havasu

Saturday, March 21, 2020

Lake Havasu Tournament is always a “Great Time” and the weather cooperated with us, the fish were in multiple stages of pre-spawn, spawn and post spawn. The weather may have pushed some back out waiting for some stable warm days before they come back to the beds. First place went to Hoffman/Grubbs with a 5 fish limit of 16.42, second place went to Tucker/R. Swann with a 5 fish limit of 15.70, third place went to Smith/Fisher with a 5 fish limit of 15.62 and fourth place went to Weir/Heisler with a 5 fish limit of 15.13. Congrats to everyone!

Kind of CRAZY to see RocketMan flying around the lake also.

Lake Havasu

Saturday March 11th 2017

The Roostertales Bass Club had its third tournament of the year at Lake Havasu on March 11. Daytime temperatures were about 90, and water temperatures were 60 to 62. Eighteen Teams fished. There were 11 limits. All fish were returned safely to the water. We take pride in handling our caught fish and releasing them after weigh-in. Many fish came off the beds or while roaming in the area of beds. There seemed to be an equal mix of largemouth and smallmouth. The smallies may have been more locked in on the beds. Petersen and Zahn repeated as Tourney winners from last month. They weighed 19.2# with second big fish of 5.1#. The husband/wife team of Asher and Asher took second with 18.8# and big fish of 7.8#. John caught the big fish while it was cruising around. He said he chased him down, so it teaches you not to disregard the roamers. Third place went to Tucker and Miller at 16# and fourth place was Weir and Burgraff at 15.3#.

Our next tournament is on Saguaro Lake- on April 8. We will be meeting at Bass Pro, second floor near Camping on April 3 before the Tourney at 7 pm. If you are interested in fishing Roostertales, come visit with us at the meeting.

Lake Havasu

Monday, March 11, 2013

Our Roostertales Bass Club had its third tournament of the year on Lake Havasu on Saturday 3/15. It was an outstanding day with 15 boats fishing and 12 limits weighed in. Bags of 24 pounds, 19 pounds, and 18 pounds were weighed with the big fish of the day at almost 10 pounds. Many of the members pre-fished Friday, and it was tough –rainy, blowing, and even hail. Bed fish were tough to see. Saturday was mixed clouds and increasingly calm in the afternoon. With main lake water temperatures around 56 degrees, the fish seemed to move up. A number of different patterns produced fish –crankbaits and dropshot on ledges, bed fishing for both smallmouth and largemouth, and some reaction baits including jerk baits and blades. There were a few fish reported spawned out, but it appeared that we were right on the front end of the spawn. Some bags were only largemouth; some only smallmouth; many mixed. This is a testimony to this outstanding fishery where a combination of bass species and patterns result in good bags. Our next tournament is on Saguaro Lake on Saturday April 20. Our next meeting preceding the tournament is at BassPro on Monday 4/15 at 7 pm. See you there.

Lake Havasu

Monday, April 2, 2012

Our tournament at Lake Havasu was great. We got warmed up the night before huddling around Kelly’s boat and cooler of beer in the Quality Inn parking lot. Only 8 boats participated, but everyone caught a limit. The three top weights were 19.1, 18.83, and 17.74 pounds. The smallest bag was still 11.7. Big fish was a 6.51 largemouth. It seemed more largemouths were caught than smallies on tournament day, although more smallies seemed to show on the practice day for those who came up early. Water temperatures were around 62 degrees. There was not much of a reaction bite. It was all about fishing the beds. Bed fish were caught mostly in the larger coves both down and up river. Some were caught main lake. Typical bed lures were in play– tubes, lizards, senkos, drop shot.

Our next tournament is at Saguaro on April 28, 2012.
