Two anglers holding a weigh in board with their stats written on it in very illegible handwriting, sorry.

Apache Lake Tournament is in the books and it was a good Tournament after all the worry about the lake being dead from the Golden Algae. We had 12 teams that fished and 48 fish were brought into the scales for a total of 119.96 lbs with an average of 2.499.

Congrats to Pat and Russ 1st place finish with 15.70 and second Big Fish 3.83, 2nd place Jay and Michelle 14.83 and Big Fish 4.2, 3rd place Jai and Danny 13.30.

Saturday September 16th 2017

The Roostertales Bass Club held its 9th single day tournament of the year on 9/16 at Apache Lake. Water temperatures were till around 80. It was hot. Daytime temps approached 95 degrees. Sixteen teams fished. Thirteen five fish limits were weighed. The team of Peterson and Zahn took first with 16.46# and big fish of 6.03#. Second place was the team of Weir and Burgraff with 14.33# and second big fish of 5.44#. Third went to Redding and Redding with 13.85# and fourth was Jensen/ Chubbuck with 13.64#. Fish were variously caught but dropshot seemed to predominate. As well, it seemed that more fish were taken up river compared to main lake although some of the bigger fish were main lake. Signs from the golden algae kill were not evident. The lake was green-brownish in color, but seemingly healthy based on the results of our tournament.

Our next tournament is on Bartlett Lake on October 14. Our pre- tourney meeting is at Sportsman’s Warehouse Gilbert at 6:30 pm on Monday 10/9.

Apache Lake

Sunday, October 27, 2013

The Roostertales Bass Club had its monthly one-day tourney on Apache Lake- Saturday October 19. It was a sunny day and the wind blew most of the day, then laid down near the end of our tourney which ended at 3 pm. Water temperatures were generally 66 to 68 degrees. There were 13 boats and 8 limits were weighed. The winning bag was 17.35 #, followed by 12.73# and then 12.67#. The winning bag was anchored by the tourney’s biggest fish at 5.02#. The second biggest fish was 4.10#. There were mostly largemouths weighed, but there were several nice smallies. Various patterns worked as the Fall fish were caught shallow to deep. The reaction bite was limited although jerkbait, topwater, and several crankbait fish were caught. Most of the fish were caught on dropshot, and most of the boats were challenged to find tournament-sized fish. Our next tournament is on Saguaro Lake- November 16. Our meeting is on the preceding Monday at BassPro Shops at 7 pm on November 11. Our schedule for next year has been issued. We look forward to a strong finish in 2013 as there were 10 teams still legitimately in the running for end of year overall top finish payouts.

Apache Lake

Monday, February 18, 2013

The Roostertales Bass Club fished their second tournament of the season at Apache Lake on Saturday February 16. Although it was sunny, the day was relatively cold and windy with consistent 15 mph winds.Water temperature averaged about 52 degrees. Twenty teams entered the tournament. Eleven limits were weighed. The winning weight was 16.47# (Grubbs/Chubbuck) followed by bags of 15.06# (Liu/Underdown) and 12.63# (Weir/ Redding). Big fish was 4.99#- remarkably weighed by two different teams. Most bags were anchored by largemouths, although there were smallmouths weighed in the 3 pound range. Patterns were generally reaction baits including jerkbait and crankbait in the morning and deeper plastic presentations including dropshot and jigs in the afternoon. Some guys threw hard baits all day; some threw plastic all day- so it varied. Windblown points and rocky areas produced many of the better bags.

Our next tournament is on Lake Havasu, March 9. This spring break tradition has become the norm for our club. Large bags of combined largemouth and smallmouth are expected. Our next meeting is Monday March 4 at 7pm at Bass Pro.
