Canyon Lake (Night)

Saturday August 12th 2017

Clouds and lightning circled us in the distance, but we were not met by a storm. Fifteen teams fished. There were 6 limits. The winners, the team of Weisshaar and Krisher, smoked the rest of the field with a winning weight of 24.46 # and big fish of 9.27#.  Second place went to the husband/wife team of Redding and Redding with 12.72#. Third place was the team of Tucker and Miller with 11.88 # and second big fish of 4.79#. Most of the reports were that the bite really slowed at dusk. Fish were caught both up the river and main lake. Winning presentations included drop shot, crankbaits, and senko. The lake was brownish with scattered dead shad almost everywhere due to the golden algae. However, only one dead game fish was observed.

Our next tournament is a day tournament at Apache Lake September 16. See our website for any updates including the pre-tournament meeting set for 7 pm on Monday 9/ 11.

Canyon Lake

Saturday January 14th, 2017

The Roostertales Bass Club had its first tournament of the year- at Canyon Lake on Saturday 1/14/17. Seventeen boats fished. Five limits were weighed. Seven boats did not weigh fish. This is a club of very good fishermen and women so this attests to the tough bite on Saturday. Conditions were cloudy with rain spitting through the day. Water temp was around 56 degrees. The tourney was won by the husband/ wife team of Redding and Redding with 10.05#. We know Michele catches most of the fish! Second place went to the father/son team of Swann and Swann with 9.98# and in third place was last year’s Club Champs Petersen and Zahn with 8.89#. Big fish was 4.87# by the team of Coleman/Allen. Fish were primarily caught with drop shot and spoons. The big fish was caught with a swim bait.

Our next Tournament is on Saturday 2/11 at Apache Lake. The pre-spawn fishing should be great. The March tournament will be at Havasu. We will be meeting at BassPro at 7 pm on Monday 2/6 prior to the Apache Tourney on the second Floor in the “Camping” meeting room. Check our website for any updates. Come out and meet our Club members at the next meeting and consider whether you would like to join our Club as we are looking to fill our 2017 tournament season roster.

Canyon Lake

Saturday, January 9th, 2016

The Roostertales Bass Club kicked off its 2016 season on January 9 at Canyon Lake. It was a cold day, little wind, blue bird skies, and water temps around 50 degrees. The water was stained, increasingly upstream. Sixteen boats fished. There were no limits weighed. Two boats brought in 4 fish. But it was a big fish day. Six fish over 5# were weighed. Congratulations to the team of Humphreys and Karl who weighed big fish at 11.12# and took first place with 13.29#. Congrats also to the Team of Asher and Asher who weighed 2 fish totaling 12.66#. Third place was taken by Peterson and Zahn with 10.97#. Fish were caught with typical wintertime baits but mostly spoons, large swim baits and A-rigs.

The Club’s next event is on Apache Lake- Saturday, February 13. Our meeting is at Bass Pro Shop (upstairs conference room located by the camping section) on Tuesday Feb 9, 7 pm. If anyone is looking for a great team club to fish, come to the meeting.

Canyon Lake

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

The RoosterTales Bass Club had its first tourney of the year at Canyon Lake on Saturday, January 25. Seventeen boats participated. There were 9 limits weighed. Conditions were generally clear with very light winds and blue afternoon skies. Water temperatures averaged around 56 degrees. It seemed that most fish were caught early morning with a tougher bite after 9 am. Some really nice bags were weighed. The two largest bags were 17.2# and 17.0 #. The two biggest fish were 7.4# and 5.8#. Fish were primarily caught deeper- in 35 feet to 60 feet both in the main lake and up the river. However, some shallow fish were also reported. The best baits were spoons and soft plastics- mostly on dropshot. Some A-Rig fish were reported. Several large schools of fish were discussed.

Our next tournament is on Apache Lake- February 22. Our next meeting is Monday, February 17 at Bass Pro in the upstairs conference room. Come on and join us, and register for the season and the Apache Tournament.

Canyon Lake

Friday, September 20, 2013

The Roostertales Bass Club had its ninth one-day monthly tourney for the year on Canyon Lake on Saturday 9/14. The wind was blowing in the am and it stood down in the afternoon with general sunny conditions and water temperatures between 72 and 76 degrees. There were 18 boats. It was a really good day of fishing on Canyon. Thirteen boats weighed limits. The biggest bags were 19.4#, 18.7#, and 18.3 # respectively. There were 3 fish weighed over 5# with the largest at 5.8#. Fish were caught with multiple techniques and both in the river and main lake. Fish were scattered but fairly easy to find- as they were primarily feeding on shad balls between 10- and 40-feet. Fish were caught on crankbaits, dropshot, and large texas rig worms with other secondary presentations also catching fish.

Our next tournament, originally planned for Alamo Lake, is now at Apache Lake on October 19th going out of Burnt Coral. Our next meeting is at BassPro upstairs conference room at 7pm on October 14. If you have an interest in joining our club, you are welcome to come to the meeting.

Canyon Lake

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Roostertales Bass Club had its 2013 kick-off tournament at Canyon Lake on Saturday 1/19.  Water temperatures were around 50 degrees, after a 3 day warming trend.  Seventeen teams fished the first tournament of the year.  There was only one 5-fish limit weighed in, and only two 4 fish bags. The three top teams weighed in 14.7, 11.1 and 9.1 pounds respectively. The two biggest fish were 5.8 and 5.1 pounds. The day started with 10 to 15 mph winds and it never laid down until late in the afternoon. Most fish were reportedly caught on spoons in 30 foot of water or deeper. Shad seemed to be stacked in 40 to 60 feet of water. Fish were caught both in the main lake and up river. Secondary patterns besides spoons included drop shot and A-rigs.

Our next tournament is on February 16 at Apache Lake. Our meeting is on the second floor meeting room at Bass Pro on the Monday before the tournament at 7pm.

Join us if you would like to become a club member and fish Apache with us.

Canyon Lake

Thursday, October 4, 2012

The Roostertales Bass Club had its monthly one-day tourney on Canyon Lake this past Saturday 9/15. Water temperatures were still around 75 degrees, but fish were caught through the day. There was a good morning bite both in the main lake and in the river. Mid-day fishing was tougher, but some good fish were caught late afternoon with a cloud cover rolling in. The top three 5-fish bags were at 14#, 13#, and 12#. Big fish was at 6#. The bass were caught on various techniques. Dropshot with 4- and 6-inch oxblood robo dominated. Some fish were also caught early and late on reaction baits including rattletraps, and sexy shad crankbait versions. Some limited boils were observed through the day. The real topwater action is right around the corner. Our next tournament is on Alamo Lake on Saturday 10/20. We are looking for new club members who have a passion for fishing, but also have a friendly manner because we like to exchange information and learn from each other. Winning some money also keeps our juices flowing. Our next meeting prior to the Alamo event is at the Bass Pro conference room (second floor) at 7 pm on Monday, 10/15. Come check us out.

And so it begins…

Thursday, January 26, 2012

We started the 2012 season on Canyon Lake. The weather was perfect but, the fishing was not. Only 1 team brought in 5 fish to the scales. Most of the fish were caught deep as a storm front moved in mid-morning and pushed them deep. Spoons and drop shot was the bait to throw.

We got some new members this year and hope to get some more.

Canyon Lake

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Well 1 more down with one to go at Lake Pleasant.

Canyon proved to be a very rough lake for everyone with only one team coming in with a limit. The next closest limit was 3 fish. The morning was very, very windy and made fishing tough, and the cool weather didn’t help much either. We all had a good time and picked up some new club members in the process which should make next year even better.

The points only got tighter with 4 teams going to second place.  Lake Pleasant will make or break our seasons, but it’s been a heck of a year so far.

See you at Pleasant!
