Lake Havasu

Saturday March 11th 2017

The Roostertales Bass Club had its third tournament of the year at Lake Havasu on March 11. Daytime temperatures were about 90, and water temperatures were 60 to 62. Eighteen Teams fished. There were 11 limits. All fish were returned safely to the water. We take pride in handling our caught fish and releasing them after weigh-in. Many fish came off the beds or while roaming in the area of beds. There seemed to be an equal mix of largemouth and smallmouth. The smallies may have been more locked in on the beds. Petersen and Zahn repeated as Tourney winners from last month. They weighed 19.2# with second big fish of 5.1#. The husband/wife team of Asher and Asher took second with 18.8# and big fish of 7.8#. John caught the big fish while it was cruising around. He said he chased him down, so it teaches you not to disregard the roamers. Third place went to Tucker and Miller at 16# and fourth place was Weir and Burgraff at 15.3#.

Our next tournament is on Saguaro Lake- on April 8. We will be meeting at Bass Pro, second floor near Camping on April 3 before the Tourney at 7 pm. If you are interested in fishing Roostertales, come visit with us at the meeting.

Apache Lake

Saturday February 11, 2017

The Roostertales Bass Club had its second Tournament of the year at Apache Lake on Saturday 2/11. Twenty boats fished. It was a relatively calm day after the full moon with lake temperature at 56 to 58 degrees. It was also a tough day. Only four limits were weighed, and mostly largemouth. The team of Petersen and Zahn figured it out with a bag of 20.6 # and a big fish of 6.6#. They were followed by Jensen and Chubbuck who only caught two fish but their big fish was 8.3 # which was tourney big fish and their second was 6.1 #. Third place went to Redding and Redding at 13.1#. With the second place finish and big fish, Jensen and Chubbuck took home about $1,000. Fish were caught on drop shot, jigs, spinnerbaits, and jerk baits. Most fish were relatively shallow; some came deeper.

Our next tournament is on Lake Havasu on Saturday March 11. Our next meeting is before the Havasu Tourney at the Bass Pro meeting room near Camping, at 7 pm on Monday March 6.

Canyon Lake

Saturday January 14th, 2017

The Roostertales Bass Club had its first tournament of the year- at Canyon Lake on Saturday 1/14/17. Seventeen boats fished. Five limits were weighed. Seven boats did not weigh fish. This is a club of very good fishermen and women so this attests to the tough bite on Saturday. Conditions were cloudy with rain spitting through the day. Water temp was around 56 degrees. The tourney was won by the husband/ wife team of Redding and Redding with 10.05#. We know Michele catches most of the fish! Second place went to the father/son team of Swann and Swann with 9.98# and in third place was last year’s Club Champs Petersen and Zahn with 8.89#. Big fish was 4.87# by the team of Coleman/Allen. Fish were primarily caught with drop shot and spoons. The big fish was caught with a swim bait.

Our next Tournament is on Saturday 2/11 at Apache Lake. The pre-spawn fishing should be great. The March tournament will be at Havasu. We will be meeting at BassPro at 7 pm on Monday 2/6 prior to the Apache Tourney on the second Floor in the “Camping” meeting room. Check our website for any updates. Come out and meet our Club members at the next meeting and consider whether you would like to join our Club as we are looking to fill our 2017 tournament season roster.
